Twenty years ago I wrote a rather bitter reply to Hope Eyrie trying to voice my disappointment and anger about how the space race had turned out. Now on the 40th anniversary of the launch I've written this. It's a first draft scrawled in a notebook while waiting for kids to come out of school so may change but here it is.
Forty years have passed on this world
Since men first went to the moon
Chances lost and then redeemed
While a dusty lander base still gleamed
In the rays of our Father sun.
ch. Saying Eagle did land there
We remember when
All our eyes turned to our Mother moon.
The bases dreamt of still just plans
And robots travel the stars
A station orbits and links our lands
In a universal joining of hands
With a common dream of space
ch. Saying Eagle did land there
We remember when
All our eyes turned to our Mother moon.
Other worlds seen through a cameras lens
As scientists search farther skies
Worlds found circling distant suns
Out of reach but still in our dreams
That mankind will travel again
ch. Saying Eagle did land there
We remember when
All our eyes turned to our Mother moon.
Science fiction turns to fact
With every turn round the sun
Our dreams have changed with each new idea
The future is yet still unclear
But none should forget what we've done
ch. Saying Eagle did land there
We remember when
All our eyes turned to our Mother moon.
