I first met Terry at Beccon 87 when he wandered into the filking we had set up in a short side corridor near the bar. My main memory fo that evening was the argument of whether Dante's Inferno scanned better to Greensleeves or The Yellow Rose Of Texas.

We met at many cons and signings in the following years when he still regularly hit the main circuit but our final meeting was at Interaction in 2005. Charles Stross had won his first Hugo and wanted to celebrate and PTerry and I joined him and Feorag for a meal. Large amounts of Mexican food and frozen margaritas were consumed and time came to pay the bill. They started arguing over who would pay and Pterry won with the memorable statement "Who's the rich bastard here".

Rest in peace.

I wish we'd had the chance to share another pint and another laugh.

He was one of the People. He got mentioned in fanzines in the Sixties. He was at Eastercons.

And he prompted Steeleye Span to make a whole album.

I wasn't at that meal - the children were too young to go to a Worldcon so I was kid-wrangling - but Terry kindly rang me up and warned me he was about to take my wife out to dinner and ply her with drink...
